This week we spent much of our time launching our project! In this project we will be studying animal communities. After researching how animals take care of eachother in groups, we will transform that knowledge and use it to create classroom and school norms. There will be more on our project up on the current project page soon.
To launch our project, we went on a classroom scavenger hunt to earn clues that told us about our project. To earn each clue we had to work together in our class community to perform an activity or complete a challenge much like animals do. We had a wonderful time! I noticed children using kind words of encouragement and perservering when it became difficult to work together.

At the end of the day we had to work together to unscramble the clues to learn more about our project... WE DID IT!
Making Observations Like a Researcher
We also learned about making observations to help our research. We practiced by observing our school, the rain, and different images of animals.
Safari Park Field Work
At the Safari Park, we took notes on animal behaviors and traits we observed while on the tram and while walking around the park. We particularly looked for observations that helped us answer the question, "How do animals take care of eacother in their communities?". Thank you to all who volunteered, the day was a complete success. After arriving back at school, we copiled our safari park notes to get a broader picture of what we saw.
We are looking forward to continuing our research and sharing our findings with you throughout!
